The crowd was electric today. Esp when russell came in. we fans finally got a sample of the future.
gotta admit - i've ripped mcquistan in the past but today he had a very good game, as did mccown. i think mcquistan's found a home @ right tackle. offense had a bit of a lull in the 3rd but picked it up again in the 4th.
we need a damn defensive tackle! overall, happiness all around. we win 2 division games.

McCown- every dog has his day. Mistake-free, and actually a very gutsy game. The fumbled snap did not look like his fault.
Fargas- the hottest RB in football. Dude takes punishing hits week after week and keeps going strong. I never thought he was this durable.
JaMarcus "Laser Arm" Russell- what can you say? Outstanding! The so-called rookie mistakes didn't look like they were Russell's fault. It looked like Jordan was responsible for the fumbled exchange, and Newberry had a horrible snap on the other play.
The defense- certainly due for a solid all-around game.
face it folks. We outplayed the Donkeys in all phases. Most satisfying win this year. Take that ShanaRat!

regarding my kickoffs vs. touchbacks comment earlier in the week, true touchbacks back the other team farther but a good special teams unit will neutralize a runback. so therefore, that makes accuracy in field goal kicking more important than a touchback.
oh yeah one more thing - i guess you didn't catch the fact that he BARELY - i mean BARELY made his last field goal.

i don't mean to take anything away from our 2nd win in a row. there were lots of positives and lots of things to build on looking towards next year. esp from what we saw of russell's cameo appearance. i think we're on the right track. let's go and get a couple more!
Holy cow, another winning streak? I'd be quick to point out that technically, with a weak division, this team is still in the playoff hunt. But then I saw the next three games...on the road against the Packers, at home against the Colts and then on the road again against Jacksonville.
Ouch.
But hey, if Norv's Chargers can lose the next three against the Titans, Lions, and Broncos...AND the Broncs and Chiefs stay out of the hunt...that would set up a particularly interesting season finale with the 7-8 Raiders hosting the 7-8 Chargers (well, okay, it'd only be interesting for us).
Very unlikely of course but, hey. Would YOU want to play a streaking Raiders team who just knocked off the Packers, Colts and Jaguars?

Also, Scorpio, I don't necessarily agree with you on Janikowski. Is he an elite kicker? No, and he may never be. But his leg on kickoffs gives him extra worth and he's been markedly better since he got himself in better shape this offseason.
And he's not nearly as bad as his 75% success rate this season indicates. Yesterday's 38 yard shank was the first time he missed one from under 50 yards since week 1. His other five misses have been from 50 yards and beyond. And let's face it, 50+ yard FGs are essentially crap shoots. The fact that he's also MADE five from beyond 50 yards...a total of 10 attempts from that range this season (and the most he's ever attempted in a year), shows that Kiff has confidence in him.
Quick observations:
on Janikowski's 58 yarder it appeared the snap was high and he slipped on his approach. He limped off the field. I will have to review the tape to be sure.
Kiffin was fired up and arguing with the refs when McCowan got creamed by Ian Gold.
Only three penalties.
The defense only gave up 89 rushing and 206 passing. Linebacker support for the run was the best all year.
Meanwhile we ran for 175, mostly to the left behind, get ready for this one, Sims and Gallery.
On the long catch and run by the mules on their first possession where Huff slipped but still almost made the tackle. Well Turdell Sands was being held. The Mule lineman had him in a choke hold.
Green Bay is suddenly beatable. However, we will be on the Frozen Tundra for this one. Jacksonville is having some injury problems. We will see how Manning playes outdoors below sea level. The bing on the Dolts.
There is a reasonable expectation we could win two of these games.

Monday morning and I'm feeling great! Beautiful game. Our best this season. First the Chefs and now the Donkeys. This must be what heaven feels like! I was afraid our boys were going to let it get away but not only did they stand tough, they took the ball back and rammed it down Denver's throat. Take that Shannarat! The culture of losing is coming to an end. They proved that today. It wasn't perfect though. Jano missing two field goals would have cost us in a closer game.
While I'm here I would like to give a high five to the Raider Nation for being the best football fans around. Our team may be struggling, they may be rebuilding but we are here every week to cheer our team on. We understand that what goes around comes around and you have to stay on the ride. Eventually you will be a winner again. We get that. Much better than Donkey fans who are now eating each other alive and better than Chef fan who is jumping off of the bandwagon by the dozens. Arrowhead was only 2/3 full yesterday?! I'm living large! Go Raiders!!!!!!!!!!!!
The O-Line has really stepped up their game and that's been the difference. The lack of penalties seems to be allowing us to stay in sync and not fall into that funk that were accustomed to.
With less distractions, and less 3rd & 20's, we're able to focus on playing football rather than correcting mistakes and overcoming setbacks. Our guys block better as a result. And what happens when we block? Zack Miller can actually run routes and give our QB's a chance. We no longer have 2 WRs trying to get open among 7 defenders. Our coach gains the confidence to take more shots down the field, and even throw in the rookie for a few series. Our RB can run, knowing the opposing D has to also think about the passing threat and not stack the box.
It all goes back to discipline on the O-Line, and consistancy.
We seem to have found some discipline. Now the guys who can prove to do it consistantly just might be able to keep their jobs.
BTW, another false start by Curry? WTF? I'll say it again, unfreakingbelievable!

A couple of weeks ago Kiffin said that he was going to play agressive and he has, he said that we were going to attack and we have, I think that we are on the way to something special, we won! we didn't only win but we manhandle the donk's in every department, I was upset at the fact that they are not going to suspend herny until tomorrow but looking at it now I am glad they did, they had "their best" and we trashed them, beautiful feeling, shanarat is the coach I hate the most in the nfl followed by gruden.

That false start on Curry - the only false start the entire game.
Another observation that popped into my feble brain. For two weeks in a row, when it counted and when the opposing defense was expecting it, we ran the ball for first downs. On occasion it was done with eight men in the box.
Plus, we are finally seeing some production from the draft class. Miller catching passes, Richardson with more sacks than Brayton (though Brayton did recover the fumble Richardson forced). And, Russell played well in his two series except for the fumble and the botched exchange with Jordan.
Justin Fargas is officially in the top 10 in rushing ing the league. The next two games will tell much. Green Bay and Indy are 12 and 18 respectively agains the run, but each are giving up 4.0 per try.

I spent 5 years in Colorado and 3 in Whyoming....DonkoFans are really that way....they burned their Elway jerseys after the SB loss to Washington....it was a total bull-shit fan gathering in Denver and they made a big fire and thru their Orange Puke Pussy Shirts in the fire.....It was at that time I lost total and all respect for the Donkies and their fans....
Could you ever imagine a Raider team and their fans acting that way....we might get angrey but we will never wear bags on our heads and burn our jerseys....

Raider "D" is #19 and SD is #20...
Even Match-Up....But we are the #4 Rushing "O" and the #5 Passing "D"...it's a Raider Home Game and our coach is learning very quickly...Turner is Brain-Dead as we already know....I give one more divisional victory to the Raiders....
Jags #13 "O" and #22 "D...But I think we win this one...
GB #3 "O" and #15 "D"....Tough to win on the road in December running on Frozen Cheese...
Indy #4 "O" and #2 "D" comes to our house...they will need the wins for a bye week...dificult to win this one....
Raiders 6-10....I will remind everyone I predicted 10-6 if the "OL" plays together and 6-10 if not....I am totally wrong...the "OL" played well together but the "D" let us down and so did the Kicking early on...and it has taken too maney weeks for our "QB"s to learn this "O" and get consistant at playing it...

Scorpio... how OLD are you? Lose the Jani-obsession. He's a decent kicker. So we picked him too high... BFD. Every team has draft picks that were too high. Why don't you start your own website and whine exclusively about how much you think he sucks?... the Jani subject has BEAT TO DEATH HERE.
Now to some actual substantiative Raider content... I think the Raiders match up pretty well with GB. The main thing that scares me is their run defense... we usually struggle against teams like that (Minn.) Otherwise, a team that can't run a LICK should have problems with our defense.
I'm hoping Woodson is still injured, you know he will be fired up to play well against us.
An injured Favre heaving up picks like he did vs Dal will help! I think its a winnable game... especially if they are overlooking us!

My problem with the Curry false start is that it happens every week, sometimes multiple times, by the same player. On top of that a WR should never flase start even once. If our "dreaded" O-line can get it right, Curry should be able to. Other than that, good game.

To me it looked like the fumbled handoff was right in the bread basket and Russell made a nice play to clean it up. And the other fumble looked catchable but was still not really Russell's fault. Great start!

Lighten up, Scorpio. Jano's missed two kicks of less then fifty yards this year. I wasn't at the game, but it looked windy as hell. Some of the kicks looked like they were practically making right angle turns. And missing a fifty-eight yarder isn't leaving 3 points on the field. It's failing to steal 3 points. That's like saying that failing to complete a 60 yard Hail Mary pass is leaving 6 points on the field.
It is absolutely amazing to watch Kiffin's learning curve. He turned this team around the first time he saw a team for the second time. Now it looks like he's searching all film to see what teams are collectively doing to defeat the Raiders, and he's making adjustments and holding a plan to answer it going in. He's telling his QBs, "at some point in the game you'll see this from the D. When you see that, I want you to do this."
I have never seen so much respect from Shanarat for a Raider coach. The Donkeys, taking a knee at the end of the game while trailing by 14 points - that said one hell of a lot.
How bulls%t was the holding call on Gallery and how sweet was it that we got the 1st down anyway. Those calls can cost games but we didn't let it happen this time. Looked like ol time Raider football there.

Listening to the post game, the failed handoff was Jordan's fault because he wasn't looking for the handoff. Russell stuck it in there, but Jordan didn't take it, so Russell kept it and ran out of bounds. Exactly what he should have done.
Newberry's bad snap caught him off guard (and he'll have to improve on that) but he kept his head about him, and didn't allow it to become a turn over.
His passes were effortless (which I think has very much to do with those huge hands), on a rope, very catchable, and deadly accurate. Next season there will be a new sherrif in town.
Last week Kiffin ran extensively to the right side. This week, extensively to the left. Both this week and last, the O-line did a good job of pass protection. That Effer is going to do it to us again. Sims is going to get damn good at the end of the season, retain his job, then go back to being a piece of crap at the start of next season. We need, seriously, to bring in a stud free agent LT to at least push Sims in camp.
One previous game each against the Chefs and Donkeys doesn't actually constitute a body of work, but Kiffin definitely made the most of his experiences. Credit the players too, for playing at the level they needed to win.
Against the Bears, we set out to stop Hester. Mission accomplished.
Against the Chefs, we set out to end multiple streaks and get aggressive. Mission accomplished.
Against the Donkos, we set out to FINISH two division games in a row, and stick it to ShanaManson. Mission Accomplished.
When this team focuses and really sets out to do something, they do it. And great job by Kiffin to ease in the rookie and still pull out an important win. Flawless execution of a well laid out plan for the young man.

I just read that in the locker room, just before game time, Kiffin told the players that the last time they played the donkeys, after the game, Shanahan stopped him in the middle of the field and said, "You did the best you could with the talent you have there."
So it would seem that Kiffin is also a psychologist.
I wonder how much of this improvement has to do with Sapp going off on the team and the players after the Minn loss? It seems everyone has stepped up their game... including Kiffin. I suspect he realized how close he was to losing the team, and maybe he opened up the playbook more. Didn't he admit he was playing not to lose, instead of playing to WIN? Me likee... this finally looks like Raider football again!
Great points have already been made by many of you, so I won't rehash.
The only other thing I can add about the game is that it was nice to seen the Raiders play a game with such an attitude and chip on their shoulder.
I wish I had a dollar for every time the mediots talk about how much other coaches (Shannarat, Shittenheimer etc.) dislike the Raiders and want to beat them at all costs.
"Raider Week" has been implemented in each of our division foes. And for some reason, we (Raiders) haven't had that same sense of hatred or urgancy that those teams have for beating us.
I truly believe that time has come. Watching Kiff tear into the Donkey that hit McCown after the TD pass was BEAUTIFUL!
As long as Kiffen and the Raiders can maintain the "Us Against Them" attitude, we should be able to beat our division foes ANY time we want.
I've always liked to think of it as "Hate The Haters". Now its time for the Silver & Black to wreak havoc on the rest of the AFC West. Beat them into submission until they beg us to stop...then beat them even harder just to make a point.

Gary, yes. Kiffin has admitted as much. He said that up until the KC game he philosophy was to play for when the opponent makes a mistake. The opposition wasn't making mistakes, and the Raiders were losing one close game after another. After that he said that the plays are going to give the players the chance to win the game for themselves and he started calling aggressive plays.
If the weather is below freezing in GB next week, don't look for Russell to play. It's not protecting Russell, it's protecting whomever the starter is. In that kind of weather it's tough to sit on the bench for 15 to 30 minutes, and then get warmed up again.

I wasn't defending Curry for only having one false start. I was giving props to the rest of the team. Should have added some more detail.
Now for the Jano critics, his percentage is 75. The main reason is he has attempted way more kicks from over 50 yards than any other kicker in the league - 10. Twelve teams have attempted a total of 12 kicks (some haven't even attempted any) from beyond 50 and made exactly zero.
If you take out the plus 50 attempts and he is kicking at 89%.
If he were kicking in a dome off artifical turf, he would be praised to the roof. Instead he kicks ourdoors, below sea level, on a field that doesn't always drain well, and in conditions caused by winds coming off San Francisco Bay.
Eighteen teams have fewer points from the kicking game than the Raiders. No one is even close in terms of touchbacks. Not even the Mules who kick at 5,280 feet where Jano kicks from below sea level for 8 games each season.
Now, as well as Sims has played the last two games, we still need a different left tackle.
Strap on you ice crampons boys, the frozen tundra is next.

In the eighties, when the Raiders were looking for their QB of the future (and present) they drafted Steve Beuerlein. A game that Beuerlein started, a defensive lineman delivered a cheap shot to one of the OLinemen. In a flash, Beuerlein was in the defensive player's face, even following him back to the defensive huddle, all the while barking in his ear, until fellow Raiders pulled him away. In that moment, the Raider players would have all followed Beuerlein into hell, and he was on the verge of becoming THE Raider leader.
The problem was that Beuerlein hadn't really earned his job, but Schroeder had abdicated it to him. Beaurline's agent decided to hold Beuerlein out for a new contract the following spring, then Schroeder had a good season and Beuerlein went on to other teams.
But I was reminded of that when Kiffin ran on to the field to protect McCown. Kiffin is rapidly becoming the man that these players will follow into hell - even Denver.
And the best part of all of this...
Reading faida boy come up with referee conspiracy theories in trying to explain why the Raiders aren't 0-16 as he predicted.

Kiffin was also jawing with the officials over the hit also.
The last two games he has been more animated on the sidelines. It provides a spark to the players.
Now, just a note, but on holding calls. Gallery was called for holding that was somewhat dubious. I'm not saying it wasn't holding according to the rule. However, I have Sunday Ticket. I moved around to several of the early games.
While flipping around I saw holding
that was much more egregious than Gallery's on eight or ten plays, yet no flags. On one the Ol practically had the DL's jersey pulled up around the shoulder pads.
My point is holding has to be the most unevenly applied penalty in the book and kills more come from behind drives than any thing else. Not to mention the non call of holding helps to sustain many drives.

There were so many positives yesterday. I can't wait to watch it again.
Kiffin gets better each game. It is his first year in the leauge for crying out loud. But not only that, tasked with an impossible mission by most to right the ship.
The "in the face" move could be a turning point. Oneal still killing on blocks. Miller outstanding. Getting deep like Casper and I like that he catches the ball away from his body.
This has even rubbed off on Porter.
I read that Richardson asked to stay in on the pass rush down to let Millard see what he could do = SACK!
What I really loved was every time I looked it seemed like a donko was on his knees shaken up.

One of the mysteries to me is why Washington's interception caused any controversy at all. They could only show one angle on TV, but that angle certainly looked like an interception. The referee, from his angle called it an interception. But I've heard a few people now say that that call should have, or might have been overturned.
If somebody has a different angle that clearly shows the ball hitting the ground before Washington having control, I'd like to see it.
It was nice to a team that played solid all around. I am still not pleased with some of the plays where we missed a few assginments. But over all, I am happy.
Kiffin, I can't say enough about our Coach. I really like the guy. He's the same age as me! But he carries himself like a pro. I am glad for him and the team.
Justin F. You know Kiffin is right about Justin, "his professionalism and just the way he plays the game and prepares, we need more guys like him." Can you imagine if we had all our positions filled with guys like Justin. Davis will be walking without the walker and dancing after the next 10 SB's.
Justin, I have a whole new respect for you and your game. The guy is the same way off the field. Ive met me a few times.
J.Russ, I enjoyed his play time and Kiffin couldn't have called it at a better time. Let's all hope he continues to grow and excell.
And finally, Davis. You know he was cracking a smile. He hasn't had the satisfication of feeling two huge games like this back to back in four years. He was impressed, at the very least, that Kiffin can coach a so called "no talent team." I think Al will place a few more pieces for Kiffin come next year. Let's hope Kiffin can wow us with some solid players.
Oh, before I forget. Nice job McCown. Now play like that for the rest of the year. Offensive line, I was happy. Defense, thank God you guys stopped the run today.
And I'm offically on the Zack Miller banwagon. This kid is good. I watched him the whole game. Next year look for him to break out with 50 or more catches. He has to be, he can do it all.

When looking at replays, it seems to me that when McCown threw that pass to Porter (the one just before he got popped), it looked like he might have stepped over the line of scrimage. I wonder if the reason Kiffin came on to the field and raised a stink was to distract people from throwing the red flag and looking at a replay.
Something that needs saying...
Both McCown and Culpepper have been class acts this season. Both ostensibly came here this season to show their wares as starters for other teams. Neither expected anything bigger than that.
But both have locked on to the mentoring of Russell as almost a badge of honor. Both have seemingly held Russell's development above their own career aspirations.
As Raider fans, we haven't seen so much dignity grace our backfield since Lamonica, Stabler and Blanda all occupied it together. And on top of that, for Culpepper to play as he did the previous two weeks, and for McCown to play as he did yesterday is a story in and of itself.
While I wish nothing but success to both McCown and Culpepper, I would be more than confident with either backing up the big man. I hope one of 'em stays, and if not, I hope both become starters - just not in our division.

Also looking at the first TD to Dwight, it was a very ballsy play. McCown had Porter wide open sitting at the 1st down marker on 3rd & 4. Porter was running a hook with the defender playing real soft. But McCown decided to take a shot in the endzone. The throw had to be perfect and it was.

If the little blue line on the bar TV (after a couple pops) is accurate, than McCown stepped on or over it while throwing the TD to Porter. Maybe, that makes up for the mugging on Sands that allowed the Donkey's long pass play... a little give and take, perhaps.
How awesome was the expression on ShanaRat's face after the officials reviewed and maintained Washington's interception? Payback is sweet.

If McCown stepped on the line, he is safe from penalty. You get the penalty throwing a foward pass after crossing the line. He stepped on it, if you look at it on nfl.com. So he's good.

I, for one, am very happy for McCowan. No one on this site has been a bigger critic of him than me.
I still feel if Culpepper is healthy he should start over McCowan. However I now have a little more confidence in him, provided he doesn't revert to some of his old habits.
I think he learned the tight end is also a receiver. As you guys know, I've been harping on using the tight end in the passing game all season. Miller was involved the past two games. Both wins. He didn't lead the team in receptions but he made significant contributions.
I think that helped slow down the pass rush because someone had to account for him, ergo one less rusher.
The blue line on the TV is just an approximate. So, was he across the line? Maybe, maybe not. I don't know the exact rule.
Current forecast for Sunday in Green Bay is a high of 36 with snow showeres and a golf index of zero. Don't pack the clubs boys.

Coverage-laden schemes simply don't work against a good QB. Without pressure, any good QB will find an open receiver.

sunday, we saw a glimpse of why kiffin wanted mccown. though i have been hard on him, his mistakes have come truly from lack of experience, learning a new system (again), trying to learn his teammates capabilities as they learn his, etc.
i think we saw sunday that mccown is starting to grasp what he is learning, and his reads of the defense were flawless. he even had some zing on his passes, and wasn't lobbing them like he was playing catch.
but you still hear it from the rest of the team and kiffin, like you heard them say when he stepped into oakland the first time, mccown is a strong competitor; and is one of the most respected guys in the locker. the only one more respected is warren sapp. that tells me a lot.

I still prefer Culpepper over McCowan. While he had his best day, he still threw into double coverage in the endzone. Fortunately the pass was incomplete.
I realize all quarterbacks have done this, but he had a big habit of locking onto a receiver and throwing to him even if he was double or triple covered.
For the most part he discovered his check down receivers on Sunday. That is in any system, not just the west coast/whatever hybrid Kiffin is running.
In my humble opinion the primary difference in the offense is Fargas. He's been quick to the hole, runs inside and outside and doesn't have to come out on third down. He's caught 4 passes the last two games. Three have gone for first downs after the catch.
His performance has made the offense less predicitble. Plus, he picks up the blitz better than Jordan. He doesn't have great technique when blocking, but he will flat out hit someone.
If Bush truns out to be the real deal, we could be set at RB for the next 4-5 years provided Fargas is resigned. He deserves it.
Right now I believe he has emerged as the leader on offense. Leader by example.

Last night's game reiterates what the head of officiating told Task, "the officiating crew will call the game as they please" they basically scored the final td to give the droids of ne the win, at the present time I have more faith with the officiating crew from WWF than the nfl.
We will win in green bay and hope woodson plays, to be able to become elite we need to play the best even if it hurts.

For the life of me I can't understand where he learned such a conservative defense. His brother isn't, his Dad wanted his defenses to dictate the game... he came from the NE system that certainly isn't shy about being aggressive.
If he thinks he can beat Farve by letting him stand there and carve us apart... he's frigging insane.
Farve is one of the best QB's in the history of the NFL with time... where he drives the GB fans nuts is when he tries to do too much when in trouble.
If I were SOB I'd blitz from the opening kickoff until the final second... and keep blitzing while they are coming off the field and shaking hands...

Sorry, I have been out of pocket. After Sunday, even I (the Southern Grinch) am getting excited about our team. The biggest take home pearl for me in the last two games:
Good QB play, Porter FINALLY stepping up somewhat, and an offense scheme that is beginning to click, has suddenly made our O-line look decent. It makes me think, again, that we put too much blame on our O-line for the past failures (yet I still would love to see a wiz type on our line next year... and a Romo type on our defense).
Lastly, I love this picture on Calico's site... I couldn't have imagined and drawn a picture so satisfying... and in looking at this picture I have to ask what the he%# has happened to Cutler?... he now looks like Keith Richards from his face to his bicep...

Schrader went to Al and offered to give money back on his contract because he played so poorly at the same time as Steve B was holding out for more money...Schrader got the starting job....we also had Billy Joe at the time....but Bo carried the "O" until his injury and Schrader was shown for what he was....a worthless bastard...so Steve went on to Dallas and was playing well until Aikmen was put in the game and lost it...there was bad blood between the QB's so Steve was let go....it's a shame because we had an opertunity to be better if the players could have kept their heads on streight....

I've been very respectful of McCown all season. Never, ever once called him "McClown." In fact, just a few short weeks ago I was arguing that Kiffin would be right to reinsert him as the starter over Culpepper. But, for that matter, I've been very respectful of Culpepper. I figure the hardest thing to do is come to a team for one year, knowing that no matter what you do, you really don't have a shot at staying and becoming #1.
