The thing about Sapp is that he was never a team leader for the Raiders, and he says so himself. He felt that when he got here it wasn't his team, wasn't his place. Then he was injured, then he went through three HCs in three years.

The change over of HCs is part of the reason we lack leadership. As each new HC comes in, players tend to find out how to protect their own position and how to play in the new coach's system before attempting to bring the rest of the team along. This is a good argument for leaving Cable in place.

I think the players, understanding that Ryan will be gone, went out and played - not a great titanic effort to win one for Ryan - but what they were supposed to do, and simply covered their assignments as drawn up in the playbook.

Indeed, whenever the Raiders, as a team, have done that this season, they've walked away with the win.

I'm told that the only man I need to blame for this is Al Davis. Yes, it may have been Al Davis who signed these players to contracts, but these same players have given, or will give, NFL peformances on a consistant basis outside of this team.

The only answer to this is accountability. I'm not talking about the kind of accountability that gets handed down from the team owner, or even the coaches. I'm talking about accountability that is handed out by the players themselves. Currently we don't have any player on this team who will get in other player's ear hole.

When we get players like that to lead each unit, we will have a season like yesterday, not just a game.

Trade Fargas. 1 TD in 212 carries is a problem. MacFadden is a threat to score every time he touches the ball (yet he’s on the field less than half the plays), and Bush is simply a better receiver than Fargas.

Maybe WR isn’t as bad at it appears; and it’s probably no coincidence that WR play has picked up since Walker and Curry are both out. We will improve simply by losing these two guys. I always liked Curry, but he has been awful this year with more than his share of drops.

Carter wants to return. Schilens and Higgins have stepped up, and Miller is solid. Now add MacFadden into that mix and our concerns at WR are minimized. Please, no more prima donnas.

In hindsight, Cable should have started Henderson about 5 games ago. If Henderson has another good game against TBay and the Raiders take Michael Oher (Ole Miss) in the draft, we could be set at OT. Shillens and Higgins are developing into potential #2, #3 WRs.

Mosh... Cutler is playing behind the best o-line in the NFL in pass blocking and he still threw 16 interceptions this year.. many of them game killers. He may still improve, but I don't see him ever being anything besides an above-average QB if he doesn't.

To 20/20 hindsite it, the class we should have gotten a QB was when Eli/Rivers/Rothy came out, IMO.

The following year, instead of trading for Moss, the probowl RT Jammal Brown (Saints) could have been snagged, he was picked 13th, and the first tackle picked.

My 'take' on Russell's inconsistencies is that much of it is the O-line.

This is nothing against Russell, and mabye a little against Huff, but I wanted to draft J-Cutler.

Assuming we would have still stunk it up so bad that year, we could have grabbed Calvin Johnson the next year. Shoulda-woulda-coulda.

Don't get me wrong, I love Russell's potential (if not his taste in cloths), but I knew cutler was the real deal watching him execute against SEC defenses running for his life and taking it in the chops at Vanderbilt.

Best executed game of the season, hands down.

I haven't checked, but I don't recall a single false start or holding? Nor do I recall Jamarcus going down.

I had Andre Johnson on my fantasy team (superbowl weekend for that). I didn't WANT to play him, 'cause I knew the Black Death would be all over him. We match up real good against teams with only a single wide receiver. Amazing that our O gets anything done in practice.

Anyway, no new take yet, so I thought I would dump one here:

Maybe this is a turning point?

We got the "good" Russell instead of the "bad" Russell (so far there is no in between) the D played well, the coaching was good, a penalty free game... the young players were all given a chance to play.

The only frustrating thing is WHERE WAS THIS THE REST OF THE SEASON?? Kind of gives you a glimpse of what could have been.

Yup. Cable finally figured out to use McFadden on most snaps to open up the offense. Our young guns stepped up;

Russell, Miller, Schillens, McFadden, Higgins, Henderson on offense all played very well.

C.Johnson, Howard, Morrison, Richardson did their jobs.

Henderson made Mario Williams a non factor.

Nnamdi and company almost shut out Andre Johnson.

I was very pleased with the effort, execution, and coaching. I just wish this type of performance could be achieved on a consistent basis.
