Oakland Raiders
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
The Raiders have few weapons in the passing game outside of Zach Miller, so identifying a No. 1 receiver is imperative in this draft. The team could also use a tackle to solidify the offensive line. On the other side of the ball, Oakland needs a legitimate run stopper in the middle to shore up a defense that has ranked near the bottom of the league against the run for the past few seasons. Nevertheless, Crabtree is the best receiver in the draft, and he gives JaMarcus Russell the playmaker that he needs to make the Raiders' offense go.

» If the Raiders are set on going WR with their top pick, Maclin could be in play here. The Raiders love his explosiveness and versatility. However, some in the building might prefer the more polished player in Crabtree.

» If Maclin or Crabtree aren't on the board, Andre Smith would make sense if the team wanted to shore up its offensive line.

» On defense, the logical choice would be B.J. Raji, although in this mock he is off the board. However, he is the best defensive tackle in the draft and would fill a huge hole in the middle of the defense.

PantyRaider...Know When To Fold'em!!!/_

H...

Otherwise it is a headache we simply don't need.

When I say "reasonable", I'm implying a contract that does NOT break the bank and cripple the Raiders from signing other key building blocks. What would be considered "reasonable"?

I personally think a contract that is 5 years in length, has reachable performance incentives, a good but not lavish signing bonus, and fair market, base salaries ... something along the lines of the following:

$10M in performance incentives spread out over the length of the contract ... $2M per year in incentives; $1M for eihter 80+ receptions or 1000+ yards + $1M for each season he makes the Pro Bowl

$9M signing bonus.

$25M in base salaries over 5 years

Total Max Value of Contract = 5 years/$44M or $8.5M per year if he hits all the incentives. If he doesn't hit any of the incentives it is $34M or $6.8M per year which by the way is 3x what he is currently earning.

Would Boldin go for this type of contract? Probably not. I think he is looking for $10M per year. Would we be better served by taking a WR in the 2nd round a 2nd tier FA like Matt Jones or Drew Bennett? Definitely.

As a franchise, we need to hit more singles and doubles with veteran acquisitions instead of trying to hit a grand slam with 1 single player. Spending $8M amongst 3,4,5 solid players who can contribute.

>>>

Let's not resort to that kind of stuff. Don't make up an imaginary criteria for whether or not Al Davis is in complete control of the draft, especially when that criteria is very likely to be fulfilled.

Anyway, with Crabtree there's a big chance this whole "diva attitude" thing is overblown. Lots of players are becoming "divas" now simply for having an independent thought. Brian Waters is a diva because he wanted to meet with the new regime. Jay Cutler is a diva because he got pissed off that he was lied to. Chad Johnson is a diva for the cardinal sin of having fun on a football field.

This is all in keeping with how many fans react to players though, with Crabtree's "no comment" becoming a "diss" against the Raiders. What should he have done? Lied, and said "I'd absolutely love to play for the Raiders. It's been my dream since I was young"? No, he did the professional thing and decided not to comment. He's a Texas boy. Of course he's not a Raiders fan, but that doesn't mean he's refusing to play for them.

Any comparison between this and Eli Manning is ludicrous. He, and his dad, were pretty open about a week in advance that they were not going to have Eli in San Diego.

>>>>

His teams have always played home games on natural grass.

I remember one Super Bowl, I believe it was 21, where the league mandated the grass at The Rose Bowl be trimed to 1/4 inch. This so the grass team (Denver) wouldn't have an unfair advantage over the artifical turf team (NY).

To this I say, where is the 1/4 inch longer artifical truf to put in those stadiums so the turf team won't have an unfair advantage.

Take,

I'm still working those picks for Sunday morning.

H

Psycho! Giants), Javon Walker (2002 by Green Bay), and Gerard Warren (2001 by Cleveland).

Every 1st rd pick of this century has resulted in a starter for the "Silver-n-Black" according to this artical...BUT...Some got traded away or lost their starting jobs...

Every "Al" Basher wants to talk about how he has too much say in the draft and is screwing up the team...With what....Starters...Why not talk about the 3 teams who selected the 3 player now with the Raiders in the 1st rd....Did they do a fine job with those picks...

2 "DT"s and a "WR"....Interesting...So what do we learn from this....NO-Thing except stay away from "W"s in the 1st rd....Their names that is...

Note on tomorrows draft....

Al -n- Company will have their players graded according to top tallent and position...Al will want to take the very best player at a position....He will NOT settle for the second or third best if he has a choice and this high in the draft he certainly has a choice...So now the question is who has impressed him enough to win that "Top-Talent" position...

I can only guess just as the rest do but here goes...This is my best guess....

"WR"....One player and one player only is projected as the finest talent in the class...He has some down-side as a result of surgery...Reportedly went very well...He lacks elete speed...But his report card is quiet impressive and he catches exerything that comes close...So my projection is the "Crab" and if on the board will become the Raiders #1 "WR" Imeadiatly...

"OT"...One player and as before one only is said to be heads above the rest in tallent at his position...He also has some negitive press and a few foolish mistakes that may cause him to slip as far down as the 7th pick...If that happens he will most likely become the Raiders new starting "LT"...Andre Smith...

"DT"-"DE"....May be addressed if both the top "WR" -n- "OT" are already off the board....

"CB"....Posible selection if the "DT" is also gone....

"OLB"...Posible if one falls to us...Doutful...

"ILB"...Posible if yet un-taken and other positions are already gone...

So I will continue to up-date as I see players fall...

The "Crab" @#7 is my presant projection....

PantyRaider....Dificult to Judge!!!/_
